Now, this is all a little strange as I grew up in Miami Florida, but it is a very GREAT feeling to be back “home” for a month while I launch SIA Scotch Whisky in South Florida. As the plane landed this time I couldn’t get the Will Smith song “Welcome to Miami” out of my head.
I moved to NYC from Miami when I was 19 in search of more “excitement” (can you believe that?!) For me, it was a small town, with not that many possibilities in my then chosen career as a graphic designer. Much like most people, you want to get as far away from the place you grew up as possible when it’s time to explore the world.
A lot has changed since the last time I REALLY spent time here in South Florida. For one, the cocktail scene has really upped it’s game. I’ve been very impressed by the caliber of cocktail (and whisky) bars here. Sure, there is still a large amount of mega clubs and cheesy bars, but some of the great ones, like Regent Cocktail Bar, The Corner, Taurus, BTW and Patpong are all top notch, and right up there with some of the best in NYC and SF. And there’s a great neighborhood called Wynwood, complete with an incredible art gallery scene and terrific bars and speakeasys. Bravo Miami. I’m so proud of the long way you’ve come! I’m sorry I’ve been avoiding you for so long.
I’ll be in Miami, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton for the next few weeks launching SIA Scotch Whisky at top bars, restaurants and stores, so if you have a favorite spot, feel free to send them my way. Check back on the Where to Find SIA page for updates.
